I have gotten to the point that I dread when people ask me where I went to college. I am not ashamed by any means. In fact I am actually quite proud of my alma mater. It is the response they give me when I answer the question. “Where did you go to college?” “I um I um I went to Liberty University.” I say this in a low low voice that is almost like a whisper. “You went to Liberty oh really.” They say in a judgmental tone. This tone tells me exactly what they are thinking and sometimes they actually tell me what they are thinking. One person actually said to me “I’m sorry.” What is that even supposed to mean! I felt like saying I’m sorry about your face or I’m sorry that you are a rude jerk. I would not say that I instead pretend to be the good little Christian they think I am.

To be fair there are some people who love that I went to college there. This blog is geared to the people who have a preconceived notion about the individuals who go and went to Liberty. Also, to be fair I know that there are people there who are questionable. Although I have visited other colleges and they have their fair share of crazy too! Isn’t crazy everywhere? I know I sometimes say that people in organized religion probably have more crazies. Just because I went to Liberty does not mean that I am a right-wing conservative who thinks a woman’s place is in the home serving her man. I am actually the opposite, just ask my friends. I am only conservative regarding some issues. It is true that there are people at Liberty who have that belief. But, just because I went to a college that is known for this does not mean I am that way. What if someone named Bob had a friend who is a crack addict would that make Bob a crack addict also? People always say they do not like Christians because they are so judgmental. Well when someone assumes the type of person I am just because of the college I attended isn’t that the very definition of judgmental? “Why can’t we be friends, why can’t we be friends?” Oops I was getting lost in song.
