Looking for a Clean House

I am a night owl.  When I am up all night I usually find lots of interesting shows on television.  There are also a lot of paid programming shows which is just another word for infomercials.  I usually avoid watching infomercials.  I usually just watch shows or movies.  There is one show in particular that I try not to miss.  It is on BBC America and it is called How Clean is Your House.  It used to come on Lifetime a couple of years ago.  I love to watch this show even though it sometimes makes my stomach hurt a bit.  The show is about these two women Kim Woodburn and Aggie MacKenzie who are both cleaning experts.  They go into this filthy disgusting homes to help the people or person living there clean up the mess.  They teach them cleaning tips during the process so they will know what to do when Kim and Aggie leave.  Usually the people are very grateful that their house is clean.  Just to make sure the people do not return to their messy ways Kim and Aggie come back after two weeks to inspect the house.  Most people are still clean which shows that Kim and Aggie are usually successful.

At the beginning of the show Kim and Aggie go into the filthy house to show the viewers just how dirty everything is in each room.  Kim and Aggie usually touch filthy things with their bare hands.  They are also obsessed with putting disgusting things to their noses to smell how revolting it is.  What makes my stomach hurt is the disgusting things they show and smell.  What usually gets me is the person’s bathroom or kitchen.   They show the fecal matter and mold or mildew all over the bathroom and describe the smell.  The kitchen is usually gross with bugs and rotting food everywhere.  Most of the time you cannot even see the person’s floor.  Usually their is garbage everywhere, dirty clothes and dishes everywhere.  There is also empty food boxes with some food still in there everywhere.  Aggie usually takes swab samples of disgusting places and sends them to a lab.  It usually comes back with interesting and horrifying results.  Usually is shows high (and sometimes lethal) levels of E. coli, staphylococcus, or some other really bad bacteria.  My OCD really kicks into red alert watching this show.  I get a little, okay a lot freaked out by these houses.  I just don’t understand how people can stand their home in that state.  I think their house starts out a little messy and they don’t clean it and then it just piles on to become more and more messy.  After awhile I think it becomes overwhelming and they just do not know where to start or how to correct things.  Kim and Aggie give these people a fresh start and in the end their house looks amazing.  Watching this show makes me thankful for my OCD.  This will be my justification for when the A&E show Obsessed come knocking on my door.

A few cleaning tips.

1. To clean your microwave put a bowl of water in there and set the time for six minutes.  The steam from the water helps loosen stuck on food to make it easier to wipe up.

2. The dish cloth you use to wash dishes can harbor bacteria from using it only one time.  To kill the bacteria between washes put some water in your sink with a little bit of dish soap and a capful of bleach.  Put the washing cloth in the water and leave it soak until you need to use it again to wash dishes.

3. Make sure you remember to dust off your ceiling fans.  A ceiling fan can accumulate a lot of dust that might have bacteria in it that is harmful to your health.

Those are just a few cleaning tips.  I will have to dedicate a blob to just cleaning tips sometime.
