Looking for More to Love

I saw a preview the other day for a new show.  It comes from the creators of the bachelor.  Personally I don’t think I have even seen one episode of the bachelor because this type of show is just not my thing.  But, my opinion is beside the point.  The commercial said that the average reality TV star is a size two.  Aren’t they responsible for casting size two women on most of their shows?  The average women is a size 14 I think they said.  Which is true because when I go shopping that size is always gone and also size 16.  The commercial was for the show called “More to Love. ”

I will start with the positive.  I think it is good they finally portraying reality.  Reality meaning women who represent the majority size of Americans.  All we see on the television is skinny women and men.  When I go to the store I mostly see women and men who are size 12 and above.  Sometimes there is a size four and below, but not that often.  Now for the negative.  They portrayed the women in the commercial as sad and pitiful who were crying about not being able to find love because of their size.  All of the women they showed were very beautiful!  They don’t do this for The Bachelor commercials.  They show those women as confident sexpots.   I think instead of a good deed they are secretly poking fun at these women.  The title alone says it all “More to Love”, what kind of title is that.  The Bachelor is not called “Less to Love” or “Finding Love with the Skinny Woman.”  I understand that these women signed up to do this show.  They probably even knew the title.  I still don’t think it’s right.  This show seems to be playing to our insecurities and our desperation to find a soul mate.  A lot of people have difficulty finding love regardless of size.  That is why there are so many websites dedicated to finding love.

This is one problem I have with reality TV because it is not reality at all!  This show could have finally been realistic (well as realistic as TV can get) and they missed the mark.  Everyone is so focused on size.  I have yet to meet a women who is not insecure about their weight, myself included.  When are people going to realize that size doesn’t matter.  It is who a person is on the inside that counts.  I know this is a cliche, but it is a true cliche.
